Board schedules Feb. 3 public hearing on 2025 comprehensive plan update

The Muscatine County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 13 voted to set a public hearing on the county’s proposed 2025 comprehensive plan update for 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2025.
The hearing advances the planning process: the county planning and zoning commission reviewed the draft in December and recommended it to the board; the public hearing gives residents a formal opportunity to comment before the board may adopt or modify the draft.
Eric Furtis, planning and zoning administrator, told supervisors the zoning commission held a public hearing in December and recommended the draft “as is” to the board and that the county had not received any public comments so far. “So, we’re just reviewing that. There’s nothing to us for action or discussion? Correct. It’s just a review of permits granted by the Board,” Furtis said in explaining the next step in the comp-plan process.
Furtis explained the board, at the public hearing, may accept the zoning commission’s recommendation, or add or subtract language before final action. The hearing will be held at the board’s regular meeting location during a scheduled session.
The board voted to set the hearing; supervisors did not take final action on the plan at the Jan. 13 meeting. Staff said printed draft copies can be provided on request to supervisors or the public prior to the hearing.
