Clarkston school board swears in members, approves personnel, lighting and construction change orders

On capital items, the board approved a proposal for lighting upgrades in the Clarkston High School Performing Arts Center from Fantasy Integration in the amount of $59,185. During discussion a board member asked why only one vendor could meet the specifications; staff responded that only one respondent matched the exact specifications and timeline required for the project.
The board also approved construction change orders related to foundation/backfill work for the new junior high, approving a bulletin (JJ Barney bulletin number 5) noted in the packet and an additional backfill item for the contractor JJ Barney. The packet listed one change order amount as $130,550; an additional backfill figure read in the packet as "73 $1,918," which was not clarified during the meeting.
The finance director reported the monthly financials through December, noting budget-to-actual revenues at about 35 percent, expenditures around 40 percent and fund equity at approximately $21,000,000 as of December 2024. The report said state and federal revenues are beginning to arrive and additional receipts are expected in January and February.
The board gave final approval to the motions by voice vote or roll call as recorded and adjourned. The next regular meeting was set for Monday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the boardroom.
