Staff noted that Planning & Zoning currently uses six-year terms and that draft legislation is prepared to change that to three-year terms for commissioners; the change must go through the zoning‑amendment and public‑hearing process before council can adopt it. "PNZ is currently 6 year term limit. There has been legislation drafted. It will be reviewed by PNC for February meeting that would amend that from 6 years to 3 year term limits for all commission numbers," a staff presenter said.
Council members debated whether some advisory boards — notably personnel and finance committees with specialized skill sets — should retain longer terms to ensure expertise and continuity. One councilmember urged renaming the proposal from "term limit" to "term length" to clarify that reappointment remains possible. Staff said the committee template could serve as a model for other boards if adopted.
