The City of Quincy Board of Commissioners on Jan. 14 approved three license requests, including a special one-day liquor license for a children’s chorus fundraiser and new business licenses for a cafeteria and an auto repair shop.
Thomas Kelly, representing the South Shore Children's Chorus, requested a one-day liquor permit for a fundraiser set for Friday, March 14, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Woodward School, 1102 Hancock Street. Kelly said the chorus was founded in 2015 by Quincy native Kirsten Oberoi to allow children to sing without auditions or tuition barriers and that it has grown from about 30 participants to “well over 200” across five locations. “If you just want to sing, you should be allowed to sing,” Kelly said. He told commissioners the event will include hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine, a musical performance by older children, a silent auction and a raffle; tickets will be available through southshorechildrenschorus.org.
The board moved to approve the one-day liquor permit and voted in favor.
Also approved was a common victualler license for Hero Hospitality Group Inc., doing business as Crown Quarry Cafeteria, to operate at 1200 Crown Colony Drive. The proposed manager, listed in the application as Hai Tran, said the cafeteria will serve breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tran said the family has long restaurant experience in Quincy and described the new cafeteria as an effort to “be an asset to the community.” City staff told the board building and fire inspections had been completed and plumbing inspection was pending; staff said they would coordinate the final health inspection.
A third approval granted a motor-vehicle/garage repair license to GP Auto LLC at 333 Quarry Street, reflecting a change in ownership from S&W Automotive. The proposed manager was recorded in the file as Giovanni Primera. The application lists hours of operation as 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Detective Brown of the Quincy Police Department reported he had inspected the premises and that everything looked in order.
The commissioners also approved the board minutes from Dec. 17 and adjourned; the board scheduled its next hearing for Jan. 28.
