County officials announce $50 million EDA award to advance West Plains tech hub

Spokane County officials announced Tuesday that a consortium connected to the West Plains tech hub received approximately $50 million in Economic Development Administration funding to support hub equipment and startup costs.
Commissioner comments during the briefing said the award will be combined with matching funds from partner organizations and businesses, and will be used to buy equipment and set up the hub. Staff said the hub is a consortium effort with aerospace partners and local utilities, and that the award follows the county’s earlier bid to become one of the national tech hubs.
County staff said additional operational funding and partner commitments are being pursued. The board noted the award will energize the hub’s development and help pursue the broader goal of advanced manufacturing and aerospace cluster growth at the West Plains site. County staff said they will circulate the official EDA announcement and related materials to commissioners and partners.
