City approves several public‑works repairs and upgrades totaling about $212,000

Commissioners voted to approve the purchase and installation of a recirculating pump and a 4‑inch air separator (manufactured by Taco) from Johnson & Wood Mechanical Contractors for a total of $30,372. The purchase was described as necessary for the wastewater treatment plant’s boiler/recirculation components.
The commission also approved a contract with Taplin Enterprises for sludge removal and cleanout of one oxidation tank at the wastewater treatment plant for an amount not to exceed $162,770.59. Staff said removing settled sludge from the oxidation ditch is required maintenance and authorized the wastewater superintendent to sign necessary documents.
Separately, the commission authorized awarding a contract to Great Lakes Directional Boring to repair a collapsing 130‑foot section of 12‑inch sanitary sewer main under Parking Lot No. 9 for an amount not to exceed $19,225. Staff described the repair as a permanent fix intended to prevent winter collapse and said cold‑patch surface repairs would be used until a larger parking‑lot project next year.
