District provides construction update; board seeks February retreat dates to discuss projects

District staff told the Roswell Independent School District Board on Jan. 13, 2025 that weather and recent flooding have slowed but not stopped key construction projects and that officials are seeking dates in February for a construction‑focused board retreat.

Staff reported the Nancy Lopez project experienced minor schedule delays because of snow and localized flooding but said work continued on forms and underground infrastructure; framing had not yet begun. Mountain View remains in design phase with behind‑the‑scenes architect work but no recent public meetings. After Mountain View, staff said Washington Avenue is the next project in line.

At Roswell High School, staff noted installation of a second scoreboard and an issue with a unit under the old east‑end scoreboard that must be replaced with two units to meet the gym’s fire alarm laser system; a purchase order was approved to expedite the work for basketball season. Central office heating and cooling upgrades and restroom work were reported as nearly complete, and the Pueblo Auditorium now has a functioning climate control system staff said will be useful for events such as graduation.

Board members asked for possible retreat dates in February (several Fridays were suggested, including the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th) and requested staff provide ballpark availability before the end of the meeting so planners can finalize invitations and vendor schedules. Staff noted compliance with New Mexico wage requirements on current contracts and said the state is eager to use the renovated Vince Lopez facility when ready.

No formal action was taken on construction projects at the meeting; staff said routine reporting will continue and that more detailed contract and scheduling items would be part of the planned construction retreat.
