The council voted to pay $1,626,708.90 in bills. Finance committee members identified several large items in the packet, including an engineering payment to AECOM for about $308,451 and a final invoice for the Art House 360 remodel for $145,901; tax settlement disbursements to Dane County, Madison Area Technical College and the Verona Area School District were also included in the packet.
Separately the council approved a quote for conferencing equipment not to exceed $9,000 from cable-fund balance. Alder Helmke said the upgrade would move the room beyond a single laptop webcam to a multi-camera setup and a document camera, which would improve remote participants’ experience. The quote included a $40-per-month Microsoft Teams Room Pro subscription that would enable automated camera switching and multi-camera functionality; staff described a lower-cost option that would omit subscription features and rely on a simpler camera setup. Alder Tucker Long voted no on the tech upgrade, citing concern about operating complexity and ongoing subscription costs; the motion passed 7–1.
Next steps: Staff will execute the purchase and install the equipment and will monitor platform usage and subscription need, with follow-up reporting suggested to council after implementation.
