City staff and commissioners on Jan. 9 mapped outreach priorities for 2025, centering on a March 26 EnergySmart Eastside workshop at city hall and a refreshed Sustainable Sammamish guide to be printed for fall distribution.
Rose (city staff) asked commissioners to help promote the EnergySmart Eastside neighborhood workshop, which staff said will focus on heat-pump technology and include a contractor participating through EnergySmart Eastside. Rose asked commissioners to recruit neighbors, HOAs and school groups; she said she would send calendar invites and event details.
Staff reported outreach metrics for 2024: roughly 900 people engaged at events (an estimate), strong participation at major spring and summer events, and hundreds of tons collected at recycling events run in partnership with Issaquah. Rachel (city staff) said the city received additional funds for a Sustainability Ambassadors program that will work with schools and student interns to advance climate-action work in parallel with commission efforts.
Staff and commissioners discussed tailoring farmers-market booths around specific themes (e.g., heat pumps, drought-resistant landscaping), using commissioner testimonials in outreach and producing short social-media reels to drive engagement. Commissioners requested more granular social-media analytics and recycling-event participation numbers; staff agreed to provide those metrics in a future meeting.
Ending: Staff will finalize and circulate dates for Earth Day and Arbor Day events and will bring the Sustainability Ambassadors scope and the greenhouse-gas inventory when available, asking commissioners to sign up for outreach slots throughout the year.
