Commission holds public hearing, schedules second hearing on urban growth boundary

Bradley County commissioners held a public hearing on proposed amendments to the urban growth boundary, closed the hearing with no public speakers and scheduled a second hearing for noon Jan. 21; the growth-policy ad hoc committee recommended maintaining the current boundary.
Commissioner Cindy Slater told the commission the growth-policy coordinating ad hoc committee met and that “state statute, the county must provide public hearings on this recommendation.”
The committee recommended maintaining the current urban growth boundary and Slater said the commission will place a motion on the Jan. 21 voting-session agenda to consider the recommendation.
A public hearing on potential amendments to the urban growth boundary was opened and closed during the meeting with no members of the public speaking. The chair announced a second public hearing is scheduled for noon on Jan. 21 in the commission room.
Bentley, who the committee asked to present the current map, told commissioners the map “is showing what's been annexed” and that the only update was recent annexations. The commission did not take final action on the growth boundary at this meeting; the matter will return to the Jan. 21 voting session for further consideration and a second public hearing.
State statute requiring public hearings on growth-plan recommendations was cited by the committee in explaining the schedule of hearings.
