Bradley County education committee recommends letter opposing Education Freedom Act of 2025

Commissioner Cindy Slater, chairing the Education Committee, told the Bradley County Commission that the committee “voted to recommend submitting a letter to our legislative delegation and other key legislators opposing the Education Freedom Act of 2025.”
The recommendation, Slater said, will be placed on the Jan. 21 voting-session agenda: “I place this recommendation on the January 21st voting session agenda, which will include the letter.”
The committee discussed concerns about the proposed voucher program and recommended that funds identified for vouchers be invested in public education instead. Commissioner Collins later praised the committee’s work and encouraged colleagues to review the discussion. “I would encourage you to watch that. Very well done and I appreciate your words and your commentary on that and your leadership,” Collins said.
No full commission vote on the letter or the bill occurred at the meeting; Slater’s announcement placed the committee recommendation on the agenda for the Jan. 21 voting session, where the full commission may vote.
The Education Committee discussion and Slater’s placement of the recommendation were the primary actions recorded in the meeting minutes regarding the Education Freedom Act of 2025.
