The Delray Beach Downtown Development Authority voted Jan. 13 to approve retroactive compensation and a performance raise for its executive director following the board’s annual reviews.
After discussion the board approved a substitute motion to provide $20,000 in retroactive compensation for the additional workload the executive director assumed operating Old School Square, and to apply a 4.4% merit increase based on the performance evaluation. The motion directs staff to incorporate the retroactive payment and the raise into the DDA payroll and to present comparative market data on nonprofit and municipal-executive compensation to the board for future budgeting.
The vote was taken by roll call and passed with all present board members voting yes. Board members speaking during the discussion praised the executive director’s leadership and the performance of DDA staff and said retroactive compensation was appropriate given the additional duties taken on since the DDA began managing Old School Square.
The board also instructed staff to coordinate with finance to reflect the adjusted compensation in current-year payroll and, separately, to provide benchmarking data on competitive pay for comparable positions in South Florida. No changes to underlying job descriptions were announced at the meeting.
