Old School Square staff and Cornell Art Museum representatives reported a busy holiday season and previewed events for early 2025 at the DDA Jan. 13 meeting.
Laura and museum staff said the organization sold hundreds of tickets to seasonal performances — including a tribute concert and family programming — and reported increased email and social-media engagement. The Cornell Art Museum’s curator said the museum will open a major exhibition, Icons of Art, in February, with a VIP preview scheduled for Jan. 13 and public opening Feb. 15; the show will include works shipped from Italy and California.
Museum staff also described outreach programs, a student spotlight partnership with a multicultural festival and an all-women exhibition planned for March. Old School Square reported volunteer support from Atlantic High School’s National Honor Society for events and said ticket sales and concession revenue performed well for recent shows.
On branding, staff described a proposed rebrand process that would include a community call for watercolor renderings of the campus and a community vote on the winning design; staff said they plan to consult the mayor and commissioners before public rollout. Board members asked staff to coordinate fundraising for capital maintenance and landscape improvements to the historic campus.
No formal DDA funding decision was made at the Jan. 13 meeting, though members discussed options to seek additional city support for grounds maintenance as needed.
