DDA staff outlines multi-phase restoration of Pineapple Grove public art, initial $10,000 funding available

DDA staff presented a phased plan Jan. 13 to restore eight public artworks in the Pineapple Grove Arts District. The work targets rust remediation, surface cleaning, sanding and securing pieces that have deteriorated.
Project lead Maruska Gatto said the team identified four “low-hanging” pieces for immediate work the week of Jan. 27 and an additional four pieces for later phases. She estimated the first phase at roughly $1,800 for labor and materials and said the complete multi-phase program would be “just over $10,000” for the initial set of eight pieces. Additional pieces will require higher-cost work and staff will return with refined estimates and a recommended schedule.
Gatto said funding of about $10,000 remains available from a Pineapple Grove Art District sunsetting account and will cover phase 1 work; the board asked staff to return with detailed quotes for the larger restorations and options for relocation or deaccessioning if restoration is cost-prohibitive.
Board members supported the restoration approach and asked staff to assess whether restored works should be relocated or re-sited in other neighborhoods to increase visibility.
