City launches real-time parking availability on Delray Beach app; DDA to promote feature

City parking staff told the Downtown Development Authority Jan. 13 that a new parking-availability feature is now active on the City of Delray Beach mobile app and integrates on-street sensors and lot counts to display space availability.
The presenter said the system reports on-street spaces with per-space sensors on Atlantic Avenue corridors and counts entries/exits in parking lots to estimate available spaces. At present the railroad lot cannot be reported per-space because its multiple entrances and exits complicate sensor counting; staff said they will add per-space sensors there when resources allow. The Old School Square garage currently reports availability but uses an older sensor system that requires ongoing maintenance.
Board members asked about calibration and enforcement interactions, including the city’s 20-minute free on-street policy. Staff said the app tracks occupancy but does not automatically enforce the free-period rule; enforcement remains a field activity. The city has marketed the feature on social media and at recent commission meetings; the parking presenter said the app is integrated with ParkMobile for payment and noted FSU and other campuses use similar systems.
DDA members suggested cross-promoting the feature through DDA channels and creating short instructional videos to help residents and visitors use the tool. No formal action was taken.
