Tippecanoe County Council elects officers, approves 2025 appointments

President Jody Hamilton and Vice President Kathy Vernon were chosen in the Tippecanoe County Council’s organizational session at the start of the year.

The council elected Jody Hamilton as president after a motion nominating her and a voice vote; Kathy Vernon was elected vice president in a separate nomination and voice vote. The council chair opened the floor for nominations and closed nominations before the votes were taken.

The council then approved a slate of 2025 appointments and assignments, with the motion to approve the full list carried by voice vote. Council members also agreed that the president would make internal council assignments while the council as a whole would confirm external board and advisory appointments. The council noted that Brent Murray (listed as Ben Murray in the meeting) will represent the council on the turf board and that Brandon Hawkins was included among nominees to the health board; the council approved the full appointments list as presented.

Council members said they will circulate an updated assignments list to departments and the public so departments know their council liaisons for the year. The council closed the item with a unanimous voice vote on the appointments motion and moved on to remaining business.

The council set its next regular meeting for Feb. 11.
