Road and bridge staff told the board that the county submitted applications for the ninth round of the County Bridge Match Program and was awarded two projects. The larger project, a full replacement of the structure carrying County Road M over Spotted Tail Creek near the fairgrounds west of Mitchell, is a proposed $500,000 job with a county share of $275,000 under the award. The second project is a deck replacement northeast of Minitare over a canal; the county's grant share for that structure is $137,500.
Commissioners voted to approve the state project program agreement that covers both structures, and the motion carried unanimously.
In a second road-and-bridge item, staff presented a resolution certifying proper completion of a previously funded project (CBMP round seven, structure C-0079324). Road staff showed before-and-after photos and explained that the earlier timber bridge had been replaced by a concrete structure, including a new pier set out of the channel to reduce debris accumulation. The county sought $250,000 in reimbursement from the state for that completed project; the board approved the resolution and authorized the chair to sign.
Why it matters: County bridge funding frequently depends on competitive state programs; approval of the program agreement allows state reimbursement and local matching funds to proceed for infrastructure replacements that support farm-to-market access and public safety.
