Commissioners raised long-running concerns that the same pool of artists applies repeatedly. Members discussed strategies to broaden applicants: contact regional colleges and sculpture programs, invite emerging and student artists, and reach out to neighboring municipalities’ networks. Several commissioners urged direct outreach to known local sculptors and organizations.
On scheduling, staff proposed online preliminary voting rounds followed by a final in-person jury session. Commissioners tentatively held the week of Feb. 17 for preliminary voting and identified Feb. 26 as a possible in-person final vote at the Colorado Mountain College (CMC) computer lab so jurors can view submissions together. Staff said they would confirm lab availability and circulate firm dates by email.
Commissioners also noted practical constraints: artists must deliver and install their work (the commission does not accept shipments), and jurors will consider physical size and base requirements when discussing placement in a final round. The group agreed to continue outreach and to share promotion materials with commissioners and community partners.
