Recreation and properties staff presented the fiscal year 2526 proposed capital-improvement program items relevant to chartered clubs at the Jan. 7 Chartered Clubs Committee meeting.
Capital Projects staff described two categories: new capital proposals and repair-and-replacement items drawn from the reserve study. For the chartered-club audience, staff highlighted a request for $30,000 to fund architectural documents and associated fees should the board pursue a room expansion to serve the Beardsley clay club and the glass enameling and enameling programs. The $30,000 was described as funding for design/architectural availability in the budget-planning process.
Staff also identified routine repair-and-replacement items: replacing windscreens on all 16 courts at R. H. Johnson Tennis Complex, and regrassing the Longbow greens at R. H. Johnson. Todd (last name given as Patty) said the Longbow greens are about 45 years old and recommended regrassing two of four greens with an ultra-dwarf Bermudagrass variety (TifEagle or similar) to improve playability and reduce maintenance; he cited an approximate start date of April 2026. The exact project cost for the regrassing was unclear in the oral presentation (staff quoted a figure that was transcribed as "337 1,005 or 459"); staff said they would finalize cost figures in the formal budget packet.
The committee also heard that a Kountze softball outfield electronic scoreboard will be funded and installed through a donation from Liberty Field (referred to at the meeting as Liberty Buick/Liberty Field). Staff said the governing board has approved the funding offer from Liberty Field and that the scoreboard line item would likely be removed from the FY2526 request once accounting shows the gift-funded project completed.
Staff emphasized the capital presentation was a subset of the full FY2526 package and encouraged members interested in the full proposed capital budget to attend the Governing Board workshop or the Budget & Finance Committee meetings later in the month. Committee members asked for clarification about installation costs, contingencies and timing; staff said small contract changes may be handled under the general manager's signing authority and that larger items would return to the governing board.
Ending: The committee received the presentation and asked for follow-up detail on project costs and installation responsibilities. The Beardsley architectural funds, the windscreens replacement, the Kountze scoreboard (donor-funded) and the Longbow regrassing were put forward for inclusion in the FY2526 budget process and will be reviewed in Budget & Finance and governing-board hearings.
