At the July 13 meeting the Brockton City Council handled two permit-related matters.
The council heard a petition from National Grid and Verizon New England to install a joint utility pole and underground facilities on Oak Street to bring three-phase primary service to a new car wash at 710 Oak Street. An engineer for National Grid, identifying himself as Mohammed, explained the work briefly. No members of the public registered opposition. The council granted the petition by hand vote; the clerk announced the matter was granted.
Separately the council considered a petition from Eddie A. (of Brockton) for a motor vehicle repair license for a mechanical repair business at 515 North Main St., Unit 5. Councilor Lally moved to take the hearing under suspension of the rules and act on it at this meeting; councilors instead agreed to postpone the hearing to the council's next full meeting (July 27) to allow the petitioner, code enforcement and Quality of Life staff to negotiate stipulations intended to improve the property's condition.
Ending: The utility petition was granted and the motor vehicle repair hearing was postponed to allow additional discussions between the petitioner and city staff; the items will return to the council on the July 27 full meeting agenda.
