The La Porte City BID Board discussed long-term maintenance priorities Jan. 13 and decided to delay purchasing additional planters pending a decision on work at the Pack Center.
Jamie, the board member who oversees maintenance issues, said Perennials provided a quote of $5,795 to supply 19 planters that had not been included in an earlier bid. Jamie and other members agreed to hold off on approval "until we figure out what we're gonna do with the other planters and with the pack center," and noted Perennials can coordinate timing with the board’s schedule.
Board members also discussed recent tree work and clarified that tree removals on Indiana Street were a city project, not the BID’s. Jamie reported no tree projects for January.
On winter maintenance, John told property owners and members that using standard rock salt damages brick and advised using calcium chloride or a similar product instead. "That will not tear up the brick," he said, adding the board and longtime business owners want to ensure new property owners receive the same advice.
No formal motions or expenditures were approved on planters, trees or snow-melt guidance at the meeting; members said they will revisit the planter decision after Pack Center plans are firmed up.
