Bond projects update: Champion addition nearing occupancy, aquatics center delayed to February; library renovations and site work in progress

Boerne ISDconstruction and planning staff gave trustees an update on 2022 bond projects at the Dec. 16 meeting, reporting that multiple projects are on track and that a few have been delayed by site issues.
Highlights presented by the district construction director included: - Champion High School addition: A 38,000-square-foot, two-story addition with classrooms, labs and administrative space. Furniture deliveries were scheduled during winter break and the district expects the addition to be available when students return in January. - Elementary library renovations: Four campus library renovations (Kendall, Cibolo Creek, Carrington/Currington and Fair Oaks Ranch elementaries) are underway, with new furniture and collaborative learning spaces; furniture deliveries for these projects were scheduled to begin Jan. 6. - Aquatics Learning Center: The project experienced site challenges and delays but staff reported a financial-completion target of February 2025. The facility will include programming for swimming, water polo and diving, a stand-alone parking lot, locker rooms and movable bleachers; staff said they continue to monitor schedule and budget closely. - Other items: Tennis-court resurfacing and band-practice surface work were funded by bond savings; CHS parking expansion (approximately 60 spaces) will accompany the Champion addition.
Project budgets and timelines were discussed at a program level; staff reported that many bond projects are tracking at or under budget but that some site-specific work required additional attention. Trustees complimented staff and consultants for project management and for keeping projects largely on track in a tight construction market.
Why this matters: Bond projects affect facilities, student programs and long-term capital budgets. The Champion addition will relieve capacity pressures at the high school; the aquatics center delay will shift program availability into February.
No formal vote was required; trustees received the status report.
