Drew Neubrand introduced as Winter Haven fire chief; pledges culture of excellence

Chief Drew Neubrand was introduced to the City Commission and the public on Jan. 13 after starting with the city the previous Monday. The commission and city staff formally welcomed him and gave him an opportunity to speak.
"I'm excited and honored to kinda stand in front of you as your newly selected fire chief for this community," Neubrand said on the dais, adding that he looks forward to leading the department and building "a culture of excellence that is gonna resonate across the city. It'll be visible. You'll see it. You'll feel it." He told the commission he lives and plays in Winter Haven and is grateful for the opportunity to serve.
City staff noted Neubrand has a long career in fire service including recent work with the City of Haines City and prior experience with Reedy Creek and Winter Park. The city manager said hiring someone who already lives in Winter Haven shortens the onboarding curve because the chief is familiar with local assets and infrastructure. Neubrand's formal swearing-in to the office and a public oath-of-office ceremony were announced for a later public event; staff said a public ceremony is scheduled for Feb. 4.
Ending: The commission thanked Neubrand and welcomed him to the role; staff said former Chief Emery will be honored at the end of the month as Emery approaches retirement.
