The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees on Dec. 16 adopted the districtrecommended 2025-26 school calendar, known as Option 2, after administrators and a calendar subcommittee presented two final options and the district collected public feedback.
Dr. O'Hare summarized the calendar process and legal parameters for the board, noting that students are required to receive 75,600 operational minutes per Texas rules and that teachers are on 10-month contracts for 187 days. He told trustees the district engaged the District Education and Improvement Committee (DEIC), a calendar subcommittee and the broader community before bringing Option 2 as the recommended draft. "We are bringing the board recommendation to adopt Option 2 for the 25-26 BISD school calendar," he said in his presentation.
The district reported 1,168 community survey responses during the comment window; those responses favored Option 2. The adopted calendar staggers staff start dates and adjusts fall and winter breaks to maintain required minutes while providing exchange/professional-development days and banked minutes for bad-weather coverage. Administrators noted that minor minute adjustments (for example adding a few minutes to elementary days) could be used if the district needs to reach an exact minute threshold.
Why this matters: Adoption of the calendar fixes start and end dates, vacation periods and built-in make-up minutes for the 2025-26 school year, giving families and staff time to plan around holidays, breaks and professional-development days.
Implementation: Academic Services will publish the calendar districtwide and update student registration systems.
