The West Haven City Council took several discrete votes on Jan. 13. Below are the outcomes the council recorded during the meeting and committee reports.
- Animal shelter donations: The council approved depositing donations totaling $1,732.75 into the animal shelter donations account (account 1010000-28285). Donors and amounts listed in the clerk's report included Robert McBride ($50), Money Order ($10), Angela Russo ($100 and another $100), Mary Anne Luszczuk ($300), Paul Palumbo ($20), Nancy Dautel ($30), Karen Ligamari ($25), Daniel Drumond ($200), Do Good Feel Good ($150), Linda Kaminsky ($25), Asset Mark ($300) and First Congregational Church ($422.75). The finance committee reported unanimous support and the council approved the motion.
- Community Development Block Grant application (West Haven Youth & Family Services): The council authorized a West Haven Community Block Grant application for $5,150 to fund respite care for disabled children and siblings during parent support group meetings. The council approved the resolution and authorized the director to execute agreements should the award be made.
- Appointment to Senior Citizen Commission: The Personnel & Civil Service Committee brought forward the mayor's appointment of Dominic Broccoli (address listed in committee report) to the Senior Citizen Commission for a one-year term; the council approved the appointment.
- Tax-incentive agreement (Starlift Equipment Company): The council approved a resolution authorizing a real property tax-incentive agreement for 829 First Avenue (Starlift Equipment Company). The agreement phases in the assessed value of new improvements: 33% for the 2025 grand-list year, 67% for 2026 and 100% for 2027. The resolution includes conditions that would void the agreement if the property is sold during the phase-in period, taxes are delinquent or the improvement is unreasonably delayed.
- Bond ordinance public hearing: The council scheduled a public hearing on the proposed bond ordinance (authorization up to $26,289,900 plus issuance costs) for Jan. 27 at 6:55 p.m. The hearing will be the formal public comment opportunity before the council considers final readings and any vote on bond issuance.
Each of the above motions was presented by the relevant committee and approved by the council during the Jan. 13 meeting.
