The Prescott Valley Town Council on Jan. 9 voted unanimously to recommend approval of a Series 10 beer-and-wine store liquor license for Azteca Market, located at 8116 East Prescott Drive. The council's recommendation will be forwarded to the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control for final disposition.
Town staff reported the required 20-day public notice posting was completed and no written arguments for or against were received. The council opened the public hearing and asked if any members of the public wished to speak; no attendees addressed the council on the item. One member of the public began to speak but was stopped by the mayor because she had misidentified the hearing: "This is a public hearing for a liquor license," the mayor said, and the speaker apologized and left.
A council member moved to recommend approval to the state agency and a second was recorded. The clerk called the roll and the motion passed unanimously.
The council's action was a recommendation only; final authority to issue the license rests with the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control.
