Prescott Valley approves $321,724 contract for wastewater treatment plant master plan

The Town of Prescott Valley on Jan. 9 approved a $321,724 professional services agreement with HDR Incorporated to prepare a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) master plan that will evaluate short-, mid- and long-term capacity needs, projected capital improvements and potential advanced treatment options.
Public works staff presented the scope and baseline plant information before the council's vote. "You have a wastewater treatment plant that's designed to handle 3,750,000 gallons per day. We're currently treating about 2,700,000 gallons per day," project presenter Mr. Wadsworth said, adding the town is likely to reach a solids-loading constraint before hydraulic capacity. He told the council the study will analyze layouts, land needs, priorities and cost estimates under three population scenarios (about 50,000; 60,000; and 75,000 residents) and will consider emerging issues such as PFAS and direct potable reuse.
When asked about schedule, Mr. Wadsworth said the master plan will take about nine months, with a targeted completion before the end of the next calendar year. Councilman Freund commented succinctly, "It needs to be done."
Councilmember motion and the clerk's roll call resulted in a unanimous approval of the contract. The consultant will produce a roadmap for future capital projects, spatial planning for facilities and cost estimates to inform the town's 10-year capital improvement program.
