District staff told the board Jan. 13 that three midyear entitlement grants are coming to the board for authorization: an Office of Safe Schools safety and security award (about $4,000,000), a Title III grant to support recently arrived immigrant children (approximately $23,000), and Title I, Part A funds for education of homeless children and youth (approximately $89,000).
Dr. Jacobs summarized the three grants as standard midyear entitlement items that typically appear twice yearly; the Office of Safe Schools funding is intended for school building safety improvements and school‑hardening efforts. Jacobs told the board the Title I, Part A homeless allocation is to support enrollment, attendance and success of students who are homeless; staff reported a current count of 471 homeless students as of January.
