Board agrees to change orientation days in proposed 2025–26 instructional calendar; final approval set for Jan. 27

District staff reviewed the proposed 2025–26 instructional calendar at the Jan. 13 workshop and the board reached agreement during the meeting to swap the middle‑school and elementary orientation days before final approval.
Mr. Green described the calendar as nearly identical to 2024–25 with minor shifts (start and end one day different, Monday start Aug. 11, spring break timing changes, and graduation scheduling). He said the committee recommended separate orientation days for high school, middle school and elementary to ease parent attendance and transportation issues.
A teacher emailed the district requesting a change so families would not have conflicting orientation days. After staff review, Ms. Bayser (district staff) recommended flipping the middle school and elementary orientation days; the board indicated consensus to make that change now and directed staff to incorporate it prior to the Jan. 27 business meeting when the board will be asked to approve the calendar.
Staff said the calendar committee included district staff, principals, parents and labor representatives and that notice of the proposed calendar had been available to the public. Staff will present the revised calendar on Jan. 27 for formal board approval.
What’s next: staff will adjust the orientation day order (elementary/middle/high school orientation sequencing) as agreed and present the calendar for a board vote at the Jan. 27 business meeting.
