Councilor McKenna asked the city to request from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) the structural assessment regarding the seawall along Winthrop Parkway in the Beechmont neighborhood and to make the exterior repairs identified in the report by spring or summer 2025.

McKenna told the council that a 2023 review involving Rep. Turco, staff from Rep. Katherine Clark’s office, and local officials found the seawall’s exterior facing the street needed cosmetic or structural work even if the interior facing the water was judged sound. She said follow-up requests in 2024 for the DCR assessment were not fulfilled and urged the council to seek the report and prompt repairs to give residents peace of mind ahead of the storm season.

The council voted to place the request on file and asked the mayor to pursue the DCR report and remediation work.
