The Finance Committee voted to increase the city’s annual contribution to Main Street Medina from $30,000 to $40,000.
Mayor (unnamed) briefed the committee on Main Street Medina’s expanded role since 2008 — taking over the farmers market in 2011 and adding events such as Promise of Christmas, Kids Day, Teen Fest, Juneteenth, South Town Music Fest and Cars and Coffee — and said the $30,000 stipend has not kept pace with inflation. Using an inflation comparator, the mayor said $30,000 in 2008 equates to roughly $43,960 in current dollars and proposed $40,000 as an increased stipend to support programming and downtown activation.
Councilmembers expressed support for the increase, noting the organization’s contributions to downtown foot traffic and economic activity. The committee approved the increase and will forward the RCA to full council for final action.
No additional restrictions or encumbrances were placed on the funds during committee discussion.
