The Mayfield Heights City Council on Tuesday adopted Resolution 2025-02, which amends petty cash and change funds for various city departments and declared an emergency.
The resolution lists department-level petty cash amounts and separate change funds intended to accommodate cash payments from the public for permits, fines, copies and other miscellaneous services. During council discussion members asked for clarification about why similar line items appeared more than once for the recreation department; staff explained one is for petty cash (department spending) and one is a change fund (to make change for public transactions and events such as Unity Days).
Council members moved to suspend the rules and voted to adopt the resolution. The motion to approve passed on roll call.
During the discussion Ward and a staff member identified as Mr. King explained the distinction: petty cash is for departmental spending and the change funds are specifically to support cash transactions by the public at city facilities and events. Councilmembers noted the city uses change funds during events such as Unity Days and the Taste of Italy.
The finance director, Mrs. Scully, was not present at the meeting; council received the resolution text in the packet and directed staff questions to available finance staff.
