Commission asks city for aerial map and riparian setback to define Milton Creek Reserve

The St. Helens Parks & Trails Commission voted to ask city staff for an aerial map that shows property ownership, acreage gridlines and a riparian setback for the Milton Creek Reserve area.
Commissioners said the mapping is a necessary next step after the City Council agreed in principle to a reserve area but did not define exact boundaries. Commissioners said they want a clear visual that shows city and county parcels, the creek, existing park features and the port property so the group can quantify the area under consideration. One commissioner said a prior guesstimate of about 7 acres was only a rough estimate and that a deliverable map is needed before further steps.
The commission discussed having Commissioner Jacob or city staff create the aerial with GIS layers. Members also noted outreach to local media: a reporter contacted a staff member and the commission expects a Spotlight article to follow. Commission members said they would coordinate with the Port (contact: Elliot Lehi) and council members as the map is prepared.
The motion passed by voice vote; commissioners asked staff and Jacob to move forward and to include port property in the map deliverable.
Commissioners said the map will be used to refine requests to the City Council and to inform public outreach and potential stewardship actions.
