Pitt County sets Feb. 10 hearing, approves preliminary assessment for Oak Hill street improvements

Pitt County commissioners on Jan. 13 adopted a preliminary assessment roll to recover property-owner costs for street improvements in the Oak Hill East subdivision and set a Feb. 10 public hearing to confirm the assessments.
County staff said the contract with Tripp Brothers Construction for street improvements in Oak Hill East was completed and that the North Carolina Department of Transportation adopted the roads for maintenance on Nov. 7. The project total came in under budget at $75,539.70. Property owners are responsible for $1,987.88 each over a 10-year payment period, which staff equated to an annual assessment of $198.78 per property; 38 property owners were listed for assessment.
Staff recommended adoption of the preliminary assessment roll reflecting the per-property assessment and requested the board set a public hearing to confirm the roll on Feb. 10. The board moved, seconded and voted to set the Feb. 10 hearing and adopt the preliminary assessment-resolution; the motion carried according to the meeting record.
County staff said owners may pay their portion in full if they choose rather than use the installment schedule.
