Kenston Local debuts redesigned website and new mobile app to improve communication

Kenston Local Schools unveiled a redesigned district website and a companion mobile app during the Jan. 13 board meeting, district communications staff said. The new platforms add push notifications, translations and building-specific feeds aimed at improving parent and community access to schedules, menus, event tickets and district news.
Amy Sparks, who presented the demonstration, said the new site offers easier navigation, a staff directory, district and building calendars, news and a “spotlight” area for student achievements. The app allows subscribers to choose which building(s) and topics they want to follow and to enable push notifications for events such as weather delays or ticket sales.
Sparks demonstrated a brief in-app tutorial for subscribing to schools, setting notification preferences and exporting event items to a personal calendar. The site includes an icon-driven menu, a staff directory and a Spanish-translation option. Sparks said the district will continue migrating content and that some items will show “coming soon” while staff finish the update.
Board members praised the work and encouraged families to download the app; the presentation included a QR code for immediate download. The district plans to use the app for time-sensitive alerts and to publish longer-form news on the website.
