Council sets Feb. 12 hearing for McCabe Street vacation, approves minutes and appoints Bob Carson to Parks board

The Walla Walla City Council on Jan. 8 approved the consent agenda and a board appointment by unanimous voice votes.
Consent agenda: The council approved Resolution 2025-001 to set a public hearing for Feb. 12, 2025, to consider a right-of-way vacation request to vacate the southerly 167 feet of McCabe Street right of way located between Blocks 13 and 14 within the Watertown Addition. Council staff explained notice for a street vacation typically goes to properties with immediate physical contiguity (touching parcels and affected entities such as the school district), not a fixed-radius mailing. The consent agenda also included approval of the Dec. 16 work-session minutes and Dec. 8 regular meeting minutes. The consent items passed unanimously.
Appointment: The council moved to appoint Bob Carson (identified in the meeting as a retired Whitman College geology professor) to the Parks and Recreation Board after the committee on committees reconvened and recommended Carson to fill the vacancy. The motion to appoint carried unanimously.
All motions on the consent agenda and the appointment passed by voice vote with all seven members present indicating approval. The council did not take additional action on the right-of-way vacation at the Jan. 8 meeting; staff will proceed with public-noticing procedures ahead of the Feb. 12 hearing.
