Policy subcommittee advances policy revisions and 2025–26 school calendar to full school committee

The Quincy Public Schools policy subcommittee voted unanimously Wednesday, Jan. 8, to send a revised school committee policy and draft calendars for the 2025–26 school year and the 2025 meeting schedule to the full school committee for additional discussion and final action.
The votes were taken during the subcommittee’s 6 p.m. meeting after brief review of a policy draft adapted from the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and local edits contributed by subcommittee members. Subcommittee members present — Mr. Gautreau, Mrs. Cahill and Mrs. Lebo — approved the three items by roll call votes, each passing 3–0.
The policy revision discussed was the product of prior work, including an MASC template that Ms. Owens assembled and local edits made at previous meetings. The subcommittee motioned to accept the policy as amended and forward it to the full board. Mrs. Lebo seconded the motion; roll call recorded Mr. Gautreau, Mrs. Cahill and Mrs. Lebo voting yes. That motion passed 3–0.
The subcommittee then considered the draft 2025–26 school calendar, which the superintendent said mirrors the calendar passed last year. A motion to accept the draft calendar and move it to the full school committee was made and seconded; the roll call vote was 3–0 in favor.
On the draft 2025 school committee meeting calendar, Ms. Owens noted a conflict with the Massachusetts conference and recommended moving the November meeting to Nov. 19 and adding a note that the Jan. 7 meeting would be an organizational meeting because of the upcoming election and swearing-in. Mrs. Lebo moved to accept the meeting calendar with those changes; Mrs. Cahill seconded. The motion passed by roll call, 3–0. The superintendent confirmed the next full school committee meeting is Jan. 22.
All three matters will be discussed at upcoming full school committee meetings; the subcommittee’s approvals send the items forward but do not constitute final adoption.
The subcommittee opened and closed the meeting without further public discussion.
