Resident urges action on storm-drain maintenance at Laurel Park; officials plan follow-up

A Laurel Park homeowner told commissioners the subdivision’s storm drains and easement maintenance were not being handled, leaving drainage and safety problems for residents. Director Hamid Malik (Engineering) and code-enforcement staff said the development is private, that easements in the civil plan are deeded to the homeowner association and that the developer remains responsible for unfinished work in undeveloped phases. County staff said they have reached out to the developer and will meet with the homeowner and code enforcement to clarify responsibilities.
Why it matters: The resident, Shavonne Burton, said unmaintained storm-drain ditches behind homes raise flood and fire-safety concerns.
