At the Jan. 7 meeting the Iowa City Council filled several appointment slots for advisory and steering committees, appointed a new Board of Adjustment member and deferred a university-liaison appointment until after the special election.
Tracy Hytchuk of Neighborhood and Development Services described the comprehensive-plan update steering committee role; the council appointed two council members—Moe and Alter—to serve on the steering committee and noted the first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22. The council also appointed Salah to the Economic Development Committee and Harmsen to the Rules Committee. Councilors discussed committee workloads and scheduling; the steering-committee appointments were presented as two members by consultant recommendation to avoid a council quorum on the committee.
On other appointments, the council appointed Julie Tallman to a five-year term on the Board of Adjustment (term through Dec. 31, 2029) by unanimous vote. The council deferred appointment of a graduate and professional-student government liaison until after the upcoming special election and set a motion to revisit the item at the first meeting after the election.
The council also announced several openings for boards and commissions and set application deadlines for the vacancies listed on the agenda.
