The Legislative Audit and Fiscal Review Committee voted to amend the Dec. 3, 2024 minutes to reflect a clarification by Senator Tim Clemens that his motion had been to send the Department of Human Services a letter of reprimand related to audit findings rather than to recommend reducing DHHS appropriations.
Senator Clemens told the committee he wanted the minutes corrected because, he said, his original motion called for a letter of reprimand over concerns about slow responses to child-abuse cases. "My motion was that a letter of reprimand be sent to HHS and not necessarily a cut in appropriations," Clemens said. Several committee members including Representative Wagner and Senator Megraham supported correcting the minutes to reflect Clemens' wording. Senator Clemens, Senator Megraham and others noted that a prior report on the issue had been more than a year old and that the Department of Human Services had been engaged in follow-up.
The committee recorded a roll-call vote and approved the amendment.
Ending
Committee members said they wanted the record to accurately show the intent of the earlier motion. The committee chair ordered the minutes changed to reflect the clarified motion language.
