The Mercedes Independent School District Board of Trustees on reconvening in open session at 3:10 p.m. named Dr. Benjamin Clinton as the district's sole finalist for superintendent and authorized three board members to negotiate a contract and report back to the full board.
Trustee Vallejo moved, "I move to name doctor Benjamin Clinton as the sole finalist and authorize the board president, board vice president, and board member Rachel Trevino to negotiate a contract and make a recommendation to the board." The motion was seconded by Trustee Hernandez and passed unanimously on a roll-call vote.
The unanimous vote included ayes from Trustees Howell, Vallejo, Hernandez, Rodriguez, Nossa and De Veno; the board chair also voted aye. The board's action authorizes the board president, the board vice president and Trustee Rachel Trevino to negotiate terms with Dr. Clinton and return a recommended contract to the full board for consideration. The board had opened by noting there was no action on the prior executive-session item and immediately moved to the finalist vote.
Board President (name not specified) announced the motion passed and congratulated Dr. Clinton. The meeting was adjourned at 3:11 p.m.
The action establishes Dr. Clinton as the district's sole finalist; next steps described by the board are negotiation of contract terms by the named negotiators and a future recommendation to the full board for final approval.
