Tim Anderson, the city’s recreation manager, presented a recap of recreation events and a preview of the 2025 calendar at the Jan. 8 Parks Advisory Board meeting.
Anderson said the department held 17 events in 2024 with total attendance of 8,251. “A big part of that, we attribute to the construction that was happening on I‑5 during the day of our harvest festival,” he told the board when noting last year’s attendance was slightly lower than the year before. Anderson also reported $23,000 in sponsorships for 2024, up $2,500 from 2023, and 110 volunteers for events.
For 2025, Anderson outlined a schedule that begins in February with a themed pool event and includes an open house for venue rentals on March 6, a spring festival and egg hunt with an 800-person field and 12,000 eggs in April, Parks Appreciation Day, Pride, a splash-course challenge, music in the park in July, movies at the pool and park, and the harvest festival on Oct. 4. He said the department plans to replace one large music stage at the harvest festival with several smaller stages distributed through the site to encourage circulation.
Anderson also said the department will run concessions in full at Dhaka Park in 2025, a change from prior years. He credited Aaliyah on the recreation team for support and listed 2024 sponsors including Emerald Queen Casino, Sound Transit, Pierce Transit, Freedom Martial Arts, KPG, Miracle Playground, Argo Complete Tree Service and Groundworks.
Board members thanked staff and noted volunteer opportunities; no policy actions were taken.
