The City of Redmond will seek authorization to enter an agreement with King County that allows reimbursement up to $49,100 for costs tied to monitoring and verifying addresses of registered offenders, Chief Lowe said at the Committee for the Whole meeting on Jan. 7.
Chief Lowe said the agreement allows the city to seek reimbursement from the King County Sheriff’s Office for costs associated with fulfilling requirements tied to verification of addresses for registered offenders. He said the city does not have a significant number of registered offenders and that much of the verification work is embedded in routine police operations, which limits overtime and special-cost exposure.
"Yes, yes in both. So, so fortunately we don't have a significant number of registered *** offenders, in Redmond. The other part is, operationally we tend to do it, as part of our normal, course of work. So we don't incur a lot of, overtime expense around it. But if we were to, incur any expenses up to that $49,100, we would be able to seek reimbursement from the county," Chief Lowe said.
Council member Fields asked whether the dollar amount implied a small caseload or minimal enforcement effort; Chief Lowe said both are factors. Council member Anderson asked why the agreement was coming to council; Lowe said intergovernmental agreements require council authorization.
The presiding officer asked whether members were comfortable placing the agreement on the Jan. 21 consent agenda; the committee agreed and the item will return on the consent calendar for formal authorization.
