The Mount Vernon City Council on Jan. 8 authorized the mayor to sign an amendment to the city’s contract with planning consultant OTAC to support the periodic update of the city’s comprehensive plan, including work on climate resiliency goals and expanded public engagement.
Development Services staff said OTAC has been under contract since late spring 2024 and that the proposed amendment extends the contract through Dec. 31, 2025. The expanded scope centers on climate resiliency policies, support for community advisory committees (climate and general comp plan), and the additional public engagement those efforts require. The staff report notes the total budget for the OTAC work was included in the city’s adopted 2025 budget and anticipates a portion will be supported by a $500,000 climate grant if council authorizes allocation.
A council motion to authorize the mayor to sign the amendment passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition. Staff said they will proceed under the updated scope and budget and return with materials as required by the update process.
