Residents ask Crafton council to study converting Duncan Street to two‑way; request referred to infrastructure committee

Residents and a local property owner urged Crafton Borough Council on Jan. 9 to study converting part of Duncan Street from a one‑way to a two‑way street to improve access and safety.

The request, discussed during the manager’s report, was made to the borough by a business owner and by resident commenters. Manager Jim told council an in‑person request had been made to consider changing Duncan Street between Maxwell and Ingram from its current one‑way configuration to two‑way traffic; Jim said the street has a wide cartway and could accommodate two‑way traffic but that the borough should review traffic implications before any change.

Public commenters described safety and access concerns if the street remains one‑way. Corey Romo, a resident on West Steuben Street, told council that if Duncan becomes two‑way a stop sign would be appropriate at the Maxwell intersection because sightlines are limited when cars are parked on both sides. Resident and business owner Cody Sheets described how the current configuration limits parking and access to a driveway used by customers with mobility issues, and he asked the borough to consider signage or a two‑way conversion to improve accessibility for clients who need closer parking.

Mayor Perry and other councilmembers said the change could affect neighboring traffic patterns and that the infrastructure committee should evaluate engineering, safety, and resident notice. Jim said he would refer the request to the infrastructure committee and recommended notifying property owners on the block and conducting a traffic review or survey before any final decision.
