Board adopts two-year district calendars with teacher flex day and adjusted bell times

The Norris School District Board approved the 2025–26 and 2026–27 calendars at its Jan. 13 meeting after administrators reviewed staff, association and community input.
Key calendar changes adopted include the addition of a teacher flex day (teachers may use one flex day either up to two weeks before the first day of school or within two weeks after the last day of school), a teacher workday at the end of the third quarter (March 11), and 1:30 p.m. dismissals at the end of semester days in December and May. Administrators also adjusted daily bell times to add five minutes at the end of the elementary day to help escort students to buses: elementary 8:25–3:25; intermediate 8:25–3:30; middle school 8:25–3:30; high school 8:20–3:25.
Administrators said the calendars meet statutory and board requirements based on a target of 1,080 instructional hours and 187 teacher days. The board approved the calendars with the understanding that any future adjustments would be brought back to the board for approval.
Why it matters: Calendars determine school-year timing for instruction, family planning and staff contracts; the new flex day and workday reflect teacher feedback about preparation and end-of-year needs.
