Council appoints two members to Planning Commission; two seats tied to council districts

Under the city’s adopted appointment process each council member nominates a commissioner and the council as a whole ratifies the picks. Mayor David Silva and Council Member Hornick each offered nominations that the full council approved by roll call. The council ratified Brian Campbell and Casey Cobb to the Planning Commission; two additional applicants — Daniel Contreras and Mark Mercado — remain under consideration and will be assigned to districts consistent with the city’s ordinance when the District 4 seat is filled.
City Manager Scott Wolf reminded the council that because the city is operating with one vacant council seat, the council should prioritize appointments to certain regional boards and committees with imminent meetings; the council agreed to retain several existing assignments until the council vacancy is resolved.
The appointees will take part in upcoming planning commission business; the council asked staff to coordinate orientation and notify applicants who remain in the candidate pool.
