Council approves first amendment to library lease with Goleta; staff to evaluate staffing after opening

The Buellton City Council approved the First Amendment to the lease agreement with the City of Goleta for library management services at the city’s new library location.
City Manager Scott Wolf told the council the amendment is administrative and reflects the change of address to the new facility at 202 Dairyland; there is no monetary change in the contract. Goleta will hold the lease on the library space and provide library staff and services under the agreement.
Council members asked about staffing levels at the new library. Wolf said library staff will survey patrons during the first month or two after opening to identify demand for longer hours or increased staffing and will return with a proposal and associated costs if additional hours are warranted. The council discussed insurance and property responsibilities; staff said the city pays insurance on the building while Goleta likely insures items that belong to its system.
Council voted unanimously to approve the amendment.
The council also noted a preview event for elected officials and invited guests is planned before the library opens to the public.
