State awards $210,000 to replace Atwood Park path; library posts closure and fundraiser dates

City staff told the Wayne City Council that the state of Michigan has awarded the city $210,000 to replace the one-mile exercise path at Atwood Park.
Library Director Wolock relayed the announcement during administration reports, listing state funding and thanking Sen. Camilleri and state Rep. Herzberg for assisting with the grant. The city manager, DPW and community development staff were also acknowledged for their work on the application. "We recently learned that the city of Wayne has received $210,000 in funding from the state of Michigan to replace that path," Wolock said.
Wolock also said the Wayne Public Library will be closed on Monday the 13th for Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day and for an annual staff in-service day that will include active-shooter training from the police department. Wolock noted the Friends of the Library, a nonprofit supporting the library, will hold a trivia fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.; tickets are $10 and available at the library circulation desk.
City officials said the path is widely used and expressed appreciation to the state legislators and staff who helped secure the funding. The council did not take a formal vote on this funding at the meeting; the announcement was presented as an administrative update.
