SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. — The San Joaquin County Registrar of Voters Advisory Committee voted Jan. 9 to recommend that the Board of Supervisors send two letters: one urging federal action to require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register for federal elections, and a second asking Gov. Gavin Newsom to require a valid California ID to receive a ballot and to remove conditional voter registration (California Elections Code sections 2170–2173).
The advisory committee’s recommendation does not itself change law; it asks the Board of Supervisors to consider forwarding the proposals to state and federal officials.
